The weather is changing, spring warmth gradually surrenders in quickening footsteps to the heat and moisture-laden atmosphere of summer in the Roanoke Valley. The summer brings with it festivals and constant events in the Valley. Not that the Valley ever lacks for events. But the summer is a busy time.
For me, the best part of summer in the Valley is everything. That’s not reducing to anything, I know, but there is always something to do. With the forthcoming opening of the pinball museum at Center in the Square, Roanoke will have yet another fun attraction that pulls in young and old alike. Then there is the outdoors. The outdoors! What more can be said? There’s nothing more exhilarating for me than hitting the summits on Dragon’s Tooth and McAfee Knob. Then the awesome coffee shops, including CUPS and Sweet Donkey. Plus the local beer scene? What is there to not love about the Roanoke Valley and Roanoke City?
Sure, this isn’t to say Roanoke is perfect and totally without problems. There’s crime, there’s some drug use. But forces of good, people who are well-intentioned and insist on doing well will win out.
Roanoke has a present and a future. It is ours for the making.
